Day 330 - And Here We Are

Yes, I have been gone a long time.

Melvin had a virus that kept him ill for a week. He just returned tonight better than ever. I feel like I've been checked out of the world this whole time because I've only been online when absolutely necessary.

So, let's catch up!

I had my 27th birthday. It was lovely. I spent the weekend with the Brit as he took me to a birthday dinner of sushi and then to a music night at Hotel Cafe.

Legal Eagle and her boyfriend came up the next weekend and we went to an old Hollywood restaurant where we sat in Charlie Chaplin's booth.

I got tons of awesome gifts from everyone. And now I have a new camera so I can post pictures again! I took my first official picture...it was of Barbar.

Things are good, work is crazy. I'm way behind, but will have time to crank out tons of work.

My dad will be visiting next week for the first time since I've lived in Hollywood. I'm so excited to show him around and for him to meet the Brit. Uh oh!!

I will write more and get back to this, but for now, I am hungry.

Day 329 - Birthday Schmirthday

My birthday is coming up.

I will be 27.

I am not a fan of my birthday...not because of the getting older thing, I actually don't mind that part.

I don't like being expected to have SO MUCH FUN on my birthday.

There's so much pressure involved to enjoy it where I'd rather spend the day under the blankets ordering takeout.

Now, to organize my takeout menus....

Day 327 - This Time Next Week...

...I will be in a top secret location for middle sister's 30th birthday extravaganza!

Oldest sister and I have been in full-on planning mode to squeeze in everything we want to do.

I am so freaking excited it is making it really hard to get work done. I can't wait to finally pack next week.

Meanwhile, Barbar is in full-on sleep mode.

Day 322 - What's Going On?

I know! Slacker blogger!

But, here is my life update because I've been soooooooo busy. Not really. But I have been soooooooo lazy.

A couple weekends ago I got together with Legal Eagle and her bf, so much fun. We did a mini bar crawl and just caught up on absolutely everything.

This upcoming weekend I will be down there with the Brit for LE and her bf's birthdays. No big plans, we will just go out or something, but should be fun. And then her graduation will be coming up. That will be insane because a ton of her family is coming out for it. I'm super excited. And I have an awesome grad present in my head if I can get it all together.

Last weekend, I went camping (yes) with the Brit and his friends. It was a new experience, but overall pretty good. I ate camp food, sat by a fire, got a little chilly, but wore about 5 shirts, slept on hard ground, woke up under the sun, and sort of felt like I was hit by a truck in the morning. But I swear, it wasn't that bad and I learned that I need a cushier sleeping arrangement if I do this again.

Work has been not too bad. Reworked my schedule and I think it will be good for me.

Barbar is fabulous as always. He is loving cuddling right now and tends to rest a paw on me when we go to bed. I know, so sweet, yet slightly odd.

Hmmmm....what else?

It's nice here. Sunny, but isn't it always?

Oh! I have to get cranking on summer blockbusters. I haven't even thought about when to see them and I don't have a chart put together. Someone needs to get their priorities straight!!

Day 256 - Frick Frack, It's Friday!

I'm so happy it's Friday!

And even better, I don't have to go into the office today. It was a last minute change-a-roo because the girl I work with is sick and my head boss won't be in, but I am still working, just from a Starbuck's in the area and then mid-day I will get my check for the week from my boss and go home and work some more.

Also about work, my hours have changed and made me far less stressed. I'm still doing other projects so it's nice to have some breathing room. Money is still good, so there are no worries there. Whoa, never thought I'd say that. But I do know that I could be out of any job at anytime, so I'm keeping prepared.

What else? I'm really excited for this weekend. No plans at all, but I have to do a bit of work and I'm also doing some birthday shopping!

The Brit and I are still trying to get together. Our schedules have mismatched all week, me busy at the beginning and him swamped now. But, we're looking toward something next week and I think he really wants to...well, he said he is really looking forward to seeing me again. I'm excited and I think we'll make it happen.

I finally figured out my new iPod a little. At least I figured out how to turn it on and stuff. Ha! But I plan to spend some quality time with it this weekend. It's cute and I can't decide if it needs a name...I figure only if something seems magically perfect.

I'll also try to post pics of my mom's visit/my birthday this weekend, along with pics of my fabulous bed. Best idea ever to redo it. And trust me, it's worth spending a little more on bedding because I have never slept so good. I feel like I am sleeping on clouds. I'll talk more about my bed when I post a pic and give my new bed advice.

OK, time to start working soon. Happy Friday the 13th!!

Day 253 - Yikes! Hi!

I know, sooooo long since I've written.

My mom was here and just left this morning. And I turned 26!

I really can't write much because I have work to do. So much work. Here is a quick breakdown.

Work: Good. Busy. Taking on a lot with the new job.

Birthday: So much fun. Got nails done. Had martinis. Wonderful wishes and presents from my family.

Mom's visit: Crazy fun. Wandered around Hollywood. Went to a comedy show. Had hot dogs at Pink's.

Boys: OK, my mom found me a guy. Went out to the local bar and met a guy. Then the next morning he was at the same place as us for breakfast. Details - musician, lives in my area, has a slight British accent, great teeth...basically way cooler than me. Exchanged numbers and Legal Eagle and I have devised a plan of action. And for now, I will refer to him as the Brit. Oh, and Neighbor didn't wish me a happy birthday. Major fail.

Other: Everything is really good. 26 is off to a great start.

Now I have to get back to work. I'll try to get pics from my mom and update when I have time, but it's going to be an insane week.

Day 248 - Phew!

Hi Bloggity Blog!

This week has been nutter butter. I quickly started a new gig/job/project/whatever mid-week. Basically that means I wake up at 6am, am working by 7am at home, leave around noon-ish to go to this new office, leave there at 6pm and am home after 7pm. Then figure in a workout (if not dead and Legal Eagle wants to) and making dinner and I'm beat. Plus, I had previously agreed to transcribe an interview this week so that made this week nonstop (kind of like this paragraph).

But! Things are good. I'm good. Feeling productive, enjoying the new work, getting along with the people, succeeding, etc. Granted, I know that at any time my work schedule can change or disappear, but things are good! And they really like me too.

Now I am just so happy it's Friday. I have no major plans other than a movie Sunday night. Mostly going to clean and do some other work (leisurely). But cleaning is a must because my mom is visiting for my birthday!!!!

What else, what else? Haven't hung out with Neighbor but I did just run into him. It was good. I mean, it's always good. Apparently he has some little 19-year-old actress "stalking" him or at least trying to hang out with him a lot. Yes, I find this annoying, but am really kind of too tired to think too much about it. I know, shocking. Sorry, no extreme over-analyzing right now. He wants to hang out, that old story, but I know better than to think we will. Although, it was kind of cute when we were standing in the road talking and I wouldn't move for the cars that were passing by and he said something about it and then brought up how when we went to the Garden of Oz, I didn't really pay attention to the street and cars. I tried to explain that they should be looking out for me, but he didn't get it. I don't know, it was a cute moment, you had to be there.

But moving on, my brain is only on work and my mom's visit. Oh, and the comforter and pillows I am about to buy online on sale. Finally!

OK, would chat more but I really just want to shut this lappy down. Good night!

Day 140 - It's Anna Wintour's Birthday!

And in honor of it, my mom and each came up with little ideas about how she might be celebrating today:

My mom's:

Well, first she gets a daily haircut. Then she sucks some oxygen for nourishment. Then she goes into her all black closet with her night goggles so that she can distinguish between garments. Then she selects a pair of jackie o sunglasses of which she has 20 identical pairs (oh sidebar, I almost got a similar pair but [oldest daughter] thought they made me look bug eyed!) and then she calls her pa to blow out her candles on her bcake and then she goes skydiving with Andre Leon Tally in their matching chinchilla coats.

Mine:

She wakes up and her PA brings in a Hermes fedora with pieces of paper imported from France folded in it with different names of Vogue employees (the lower ones) written on them. She pulls out 5 names and those are the ones getting fired. Yay for birthdays! She opens her closet and takes out the outfit marked “November 3, 2009.” She then gets word that her PA fired the 5 staffers and she celebrates by having a martini, no fatty olives. She then spends the rest of the day keeping her hair in place and sending away cheap $5,000 gifts from lowly Vogue staffers and designers. For her birthday celebration she meets up with Vanity Fair’s Graydon Carter at The Waverly Inn where they spend the night not eating, yet somehow racking up a $3,000 bill, and laughing about how they rule the world. Well, she doesn’t laugh, just nods in agreement. Before the end of the night, Andre Leon Tally comes in and gifts her with the Hope Diamond. Lady Wintour decides he will live to see another day of employment.

Hope you laughed!

Day 117 - Oh Blog...

...I have been so neglectful!! I promise to post pictures of the infamous wedding and my birthday, but first I have a new job! It's a temp gig, but full-time for now and so I have been taking pictures of my outfits all week. Why? Because I am obsessed with myself. So here is what I wore (oh, and I think I will try to do this every week.):

^Monday! A classic "first day at work" outfit for me. This dress has even survived a very scary caught in the rain dye accident. I love it so.

^Tuesday! Channeling Grease?

^Wednesday! I so love this dress too and it was only like $7. Doesn't get much better than that.

^Thursday! I tried on about 5 different outfits this day. I feel like it's something my mom would wear, except she would've thrown on some awesome necklace with it.

^Friday! I had no idea I'd love this combo so much, especially with the shirt tucked in, but I am in loooove.

Hope you enjoyed! Happy Friday and weekend!!

Day 115 - Happy Birthday To Meeeeeeeeeeee!

It's my 25th birthday this Friday the 31st of July!!!!

Legal Eagle and I are going to San Francisco and Fort Bragg/Mendocino. My middle sister is coming to Los Angeles with a friend and then we are all heading up there to meet my oldest sister.

It's very exciting to get to spend my 25th back in the SF area. It feels very fitting to me and I'm so freaking happy to get away.

But I was thinking...if I could spend my birthday any other way it would be watching a marathon of What I Like About You with my mom while my dad would makes drinks and snacks and chime in, "Ah, I think I've seen this one."

On another note: I know I've been horrible about updating, but I promise to get back into once I return and to also finally do a wedding post! Yikes, so behind!

Until then...I will be celebrating my birthday week and pretty much MIA.

Day 103 - Oh Orange County!

Now that Legal Eagle and I live in the Hollywood Hills I feel like a bit of a snob when it comes to Orange County (usually for her to work at her boss's and train people).

We're always yelling about how annoying Orange County people are and how ugly the area is (mostly calling it Stepford-y). And this week, we are in for a full-on Orange County attack.

First, we are at her boss's today. Ugh. So LE treated me to Starbuck's as I had to be up by 5 a.m. today. We got there and ordered and sat to eat and drink and kill some time. Then, a very done up OC lady asked us if we were from the area. "No." And then asked where we were from. "Hollywood" (said smuggly). She was going to give us a coupon for a boot camp class she is in (and the girls who run it were with her). There are many problems with this:

- I don't work out in the morning. I hate it and when I do I am an angry, angry girl.

- All three woman had on more than full faces of makeup and hair down. I don't work out like this and am grossed out by women who do.

- Why are you at Starbuck's drinking iced coffees if you are in bootcamp? No trainer would think that is a good idea.

- None of them were in shape.

- They also said (to someone else) that they were a very social bootcamp.

- I do not socialize well in the a.m. and would probably kill someone if I went.

OK, but there are two parts of this that make this story even better. A guy (youngish and in shape) came in and they attacked him like vultures. They were like, "Do you workout in the morning?" Lame! And he entertained them by chatting, but those silly girls are trained properly. He had a wedding ring. SIDE NOTE: Why am I always looking for wedding rings now? Am I getting to the age where men I could be interested in are marrying off? This is weird. BACK TO STORY: OK, so the women thought they had him and then he asked if they knew about some other place and they said no. This allowed him to say, "Oh, my wife goes there." Oh man, it was so smooth and they so didn't expect it. I almost couldn't help laughing and had to shove my head onto the couch we were sitting on. I was impressed by him.

Also, when we left I posed this question to LE:

"What does it say about me that when she began talking to us I thought it was going to be so she could tell us how great we looked?"

LE's response: laughter, "I thought she was going to sell us Mary Kay."

Oh, and we do look great today.

Onto more OC news. We are going to LE's boss's (the one we hang out with - not the one above) birthday party Friday night. Should be fun because we haven't gone out with her since the infamous Long Beach night. So, we'll hoof it out to OC and take her to a happy hour possibly (treated by the other boss from above) and then go out with her and a bunch of other people for the birthday.

But LE and I contemplating who will be there and who we will know. I am sure that the loser who didn't call her, B/B, will be there (although she isn't even interested in him and he is soooo not her type). She plans to pretend that she doesn't remember him. Haha! And we suspect Mr. "Kiss me" will be there (I'm hoping he is far enough removed from LE's boss's close group of friends that he wasn't included). We shall see, but this means that I must look good. Outfit is planned and ready to go.

So I guess I am getting my OC overload this week. I just want to go back home to Hollywood and never leave.

Day 102 - LE's Birthday!

Legal Eagle had her birthday a few weekends ago. I took her to the live show of Dirty Dancing as a surprise. We had a great time and here are some pictures!

^The day started with breakfast in bed. No birthday should start without a mimosa. Also putting a candle in hot scrambled eggs will result in waxy scrambled eggs. Oops!

^Pretty pink cocktails!

^I chose LE's dress and accessories (I loaded her with bracelets). I'm a pretty good stylist.

^And there's me!!

^The cats threw a party while we were gone. The place was trashed! Ha.

Day 23 - Me Time

I’m back and 24!!!

And all I want right now is a little “me time.” I feel very much in the need of a day or 2 of just vegging out with nothing to do. But with our apartment being fairly close to a disaster zone and my life being equally as close, I think I will have to wait until the weekend to truly have a little “me time” and catch up with my magazines and Shopaholic.

But I think there are a few things that will get me to the weekend:

- My birthday party girl dress which I will post a picture of as soon as I take one. Maybe I’ll try it on just for kicks.

- Some WILAY episodes since it has been forever since I’ve gotten to see one.

- Knowing that my many mosquito bites from Texas will have to go away eventually.

- Coming home and remembering all the cutesy little things I got for my birthday.

- Oh, my parents impending arrival of course. Will be so nice!

In other news, talked to Oldest Sister today who informed me that she figured out why I like WILAY. Said she finally noticed Holly’s short skirts and it all makes sense because I am also quite fond of wearing short shorts or skirts for that matter.

^ So not the reason I like the show, but I can appreciate and relate to her taste in clothing.

If I were in school I would totally be shopping for school supplies. Not sure why I thought about this, but it actually seems like it would be fun. Man, I really want an office job, so I can buy a ton of cutesy office supplies. Then I would be known as The Girl with the Cutesy Office Supplies (if you read Shopaholic, this may sound familiar).

And I could go back-to-school clothes shopping! I would get scarves and boots and a bunch of clothes in brown and yellow and green. And of course a load of little jackets!

On a final and completely different note:

I saw the layout of Brad and Angelina’s kids and poor Maddox! He only gets one picture (of the 19 pages) and it’s a profile…although there is another, but he has Shiloh sitting on him so you only see him legs and arms. At first I wondered if he was going through an awkward stage, but he isn’t, he is just left out.

Day 22 - Another Year Wiser??

I am one day away from my 24th birthday and as I was sitting eating my bagel with goat cheese (a gift from my parents, yes, I got goat cheese for my birthday) I thought that this year I just may feel a bit wiser, as they say you should.

But just because I am wiser this year, doesn’t mean I won’t continue to do things like get my shoe stuck in cake.

^ Very good episode and unusual because they are outside for most of it.

But back to what I have become wiser about:

- While public transportation is great, sometimes you just must break down and call a cab.

- It is possible to truly love a piece of clothing, a bag or a pair of shoes (especially when they are birthday gifts).

^ Like when Holly loved her cashmere sweater.

- Bread should be eaten rustic style.

- People come as advertised (as Greg Behrendt told us). This is not only wise, but applies to The Doc, who I had a convo with that went something like this:

A couple days ago:

Doc: What are you up to tonight?

Me: Sisters are in town.

Doc: Oh, just wanted to see if you wanted to go out tonight.

Me: Can’t, but maybe Monday or Tuesday?

Doc: Should work next week. Maybe Sunday, we’ll talk then.

(first, Sunday wasn’t an option as my sisters were still in town).

Then last night:

Doc: What’re you up to tonight? Wanna get together? Happy early birthday by the way.

Me: Thanks, can’t tonight and going out of town soon.

(side note: I really was busy last night as I was helping Legal Eagle at work because her boss needs some things organized and we didn’t get home until close to 9 and he hadn’t booked me for Tuesday whatsoever).

Doc: Oh, thought we were getting together tonight.

Me: Didn’t know you were gonna be free. I’ll be back on the 5th.

Doc: OK, we should get together soon.

And now I have come to realize that he is completely as advertised and will probably never make a plan in advance when it comes to me. And as LE asked:

If you were really into him, you would be going out, wouldn’t you?

And I would have. So, sorry Doc, I’m just don't know if I'm that into you or into going out at the last minute. (Plus the boys in Long Beach are oh-so-cute, but that isn’t the only reason I want to move there).

^ When Holly went to Florida for Vince, now that is being into someone.

OK, back to things I am wiser about:

- Vegas is fun, but you can only survive there for a couple of days.

- I now know when there is something I really want, like a job. As I just got yet another rejection, I’ve come to realize that almost all of these places I have applied to are not places I see myself working. So now it’s a matter of finding a place I see myself. Oh yeah, and that whole timing thing.

- Don’t try to light your gas stove with newspaper that you light on fire. Don’t worry, there were no injuries whatsoever.

- Cats shouldn’t eat string.

- I’m really quite funny, like, I can make myself laugh just about all the time.

OK, so that’s a pretty rough, but accurate list. Plus I don’t feel like writing much more and I have a million things to do before going off to Galveston for a few.

Happy Birthday to me! Sorry, the blog will be temporarily stalled during my trip, but I will report back with all the fun and adventures!

Day 21 - It's Been A While...

It has been far too long since I last visited this blog due to my sisters’ visits. But there was much fun with my girlies and Martini all week.

I got to see some of my most favorite people: Chelsea Handler and Greg Behrendt.

Both were more than I could ever ask for. I even got a picture with Greg (which my sister has on her camera) and got to tell him how obsessed I used to be with his old talk show. Embarrassing, but I’m sure he was flattered.

Once Martini arrived, we took him to a dog beach.

Middle sister: Isn’t Long Beach creepy?

Me: No.

a few minutes pass…

Me: It’s Schlong Beach that’s creepy.

Middle Sister: (laughs)

a few minutes pass….

Me: (laughs)

Middle Sister: What?

Me: Ha…Schlong Beach…

And we also got Sprinkles Cupcakes!

Me: I want the red velvet one now.

Legal Eagle: I want a bite of Molly’s red velvet one.

Oldest sister: I want the vanilla one.

LE: I want a bite of (oldest sister’s) vanilla one.

Middle sister: I want the peanut butter one.

LE: I want a bite of (middle sister’s) peanut butter one.

Middle sister: Do you want the lemon one?

LE: Yeah.

As you can tell, the cupcakes were quite enjoyable and LE and I still have some sitting in our fridge as well as some sweet cookies from my parents for my upcoming birthday.

Speaking of which, I got some wonderful gifts from everyone and more are to come apparently. But I also got something not so great.

^ not my actual mailing

But I got a letter from AARP yesterday…also an early birthday gift??

So I am preparing to turn 24 in 2 days. I’m feeling rather ready as I stare at my cute, new birthday gift shoes. (I will at some point put pictures up, but am also rather lazy today).

But in honor of my birthday:

^ Gary’s birthday party

^ Tina’s birthday party.

I could not find pictures from the episode where Holly gets $2000 from her grandmother and then kind of loses it and then spends her birthday at The Plaza, but that’s a really great episode.

OK, time to flip the laundry, but hopefully I will blog some more today and fill in some blanks from the last crazy week.

Day 17 - Cheer Up Buttercup

I have been in a major funk. And it’s time for it to end.

So, while I have been dwelling over all the annoying, sucky things going on, I’ve decided to focus on the fun and exciting things that are coming up.

Now here is my list of upcoming fun!

- I get to cover a wonderful event with huge names and while I completely think I’ll be a bit of a mess, it’ll be a huge accomplishment and I think I need to start thinking of it that way.

- My sisters are coming! Finally, I get to have some family visit me out here! While it’s been stressful getting ready and making sure all pieces are in place, I can’t wait to see them and know it will be an absolute blast.

- Martini is coming! My middle sister has the best dog ever and he is making a trip out to California (possibly to become a movie star).

- Movie screening Monday. It’s a small movie, but I get to take LE and my oldest sister to it, so I feel pretty cool. Very excited that I get to take my sister to a fancy, private, advance screening with comfy comfy seating.

- Chelsea Handler Show!! Finally I get to go to a taping. I’m so excited to see her in person and I hope she has a super great guest on the show.

- Possible studio tour. Oldest sister and I might go on a tour. And while this is totally lame in a way, I foresee a million laughs along the way. Plus we’ll probably get yelled at or in trouble or kicked off the lot.

- My hero - Greg Behrendt (He’s Just Not That Into You). LE and both sisters and I are going to his show next week. I am sooooo excited. And I can tell him I was probably the only person in the world who watch his short-lived talk show everyday.

- My bowling gift card. Finally going to use it with my visitors. Nice to get something for free!

- I do have an interview with a company that publishes a couple of magazines. Unsure about it as of now, but it’ll be interesting to hear what the job would entail and if it’s what I want to do that could easily sway me.

- My birthday is in about 2 weeks. While I do not like to make a huge deal out of my birthday and get rather overwhelmed once it gets here, I think I will be OK this year. I’m just going to let people fawn over me and do whatever they want and take it easy. Ha.

- I will soon have had a Sprinkles cupcake.

- I’m working my way through all the Shopaholic books and love them and can totally relate to Becky, although it’ll be sad when I’m done with them.

- My sister’s calendar for California. My oldest sister and I figured out how to make and share a calendar on Gmail, so we can add things and stay organized, but we can both use it and we are having so much fun with it.

- Griffith Observatory. Oldest sister and I are going to go and she’s going to say, “What are you rebelling against?” To which I will respond, “What have you got?” And then we’ll drive off a cliff.

- Doggie beach with Martini. Have I mentioned how fabulous and gorgeous he is???

OK, that’s about all I can think about for now. But now I am super excited and feeling better.

^ So not how I will be greeting my sisters at the airport. Sorry girls!!
